PACK THE ROOM - CITY COUNCIL

PACK THE ROOM

City Council will be voting on proposed unconstitutional changes to picketing ordinances during Monday's (APR 27) regularly scheduled meeting, which begins at 6:30PM.

They are also receiving the moratoria brief from the legal team regarding data centers (with no action to be taken other than receiving the brief).

Regarding the picketing ordinances, it appears the proposed changes are no different from what they were when the motion was passed last time to move it for more discussion and bring it up at a later date. So it's unclear what, if anything, has happened since the first time it was brought up for a vote. There should have been ample notice and an opportunity for public comment, but that's of course an ongoing issue we've been trying to address.

Click here to view the summary of proposed changes, to including a cute little graphic to explain the buffer zones for outside dining areas.

One of the biggest changes is the buffer zones which of course are tailored specifically for Hay Street (even though it doesn't say it)...and anyone that has done actions on Hay Street can see how the proposed changes would make it virtually impossible to march and picket on Hay Street without breaking the law.

The other big change would be requiring an intent to picket form be filed, even for one person vs 10 or more people as it currently stands. This is an infringement on 1st Amendment rights.

This affects virtually everyone in the activism space, so please show up, bring a sign (that will not interfere with other attendees), and show the City Council that We The People are watching and will hold them accountable.
